The Search fer Plunderin' Percival's Loot
a print-at-home escape-room style game
(part of the Shared Treasure Hunt family of piratical activities)

Premise: Information on treasure hidden during the Golden Age of Piracy has come to light. In 1843, Professor Phillip Lafayette (a descendant of pirate Percival the Putrid) used a family map to unearth his ancestor’s treasure chest. He considered doling out the loot to his four sons, but decided instead to use the map as an opportunity to bring the four estranged brothers together working toward a common goal. Unfortunately, Phillip couldn’t get all four to agree, and so the map and treasure lay dormant until the map was found by one of Phillip’s great-granddaughters, Margaret Lafayette Sperling, who was willed his home.

Margaret planned to have her own children go in search of the treasure one day, but alas, they didn’t believe the treasure was real and never showed any interest in the map. Now, using the clues originally hidden by Phillip, you have the opportunity to join together as a crew to find the treasure and divvy up the loot!

Ages: The hunt is written with varying degrees of difficulty in the form of think-and-act activities plus optional enhancements. Elementary and Middle School children will most likely enjoy the hunt most … well, nearly as much as their parents!

Time: The hunt should take about 30-45 minutes depending on age, group size, and whether you include any of the optional add-on activities.

Costs: Aside from our cost — $18.43 — your financial outlay can be as low as the price of printing on plain paper with colored ink. Or you may decide to go all out with physical properties and decor.

Overview:  Starting with a note recently found among the belongings of Margaret Lafayette Sperling who recently passed, we will take you through your paces (steps/instructions provided below) as you work the clues to find a family treasure buried in the mid-nineteenth century.
